Captain Mitch Mattson
Hello, & welcome to our website. I am Captain
Mitch Mattson.
Captain Mitch Mattson
Lake Superior Fishing Charter Captain Mitch Mattson, Shelter Bay Charters, Michigan
I am a native of the UP (Upper Peninsula of Michigan)
and Lake Superior - I grew up on the shores of Lake Superior, exploring its depths,
its shorelines, fishing spots, and braving its temperament.
You might say my heart is of this land and Lake
Superior. I love the water, fishing, and sharing with others
its fierce hunt and magestic scenery. When I was young, it was
a given that I would become a commercial
charter Captain.
Over
my twenty years of taking people out on Lake
Superior fishing charter trips, I've met people from all
corners of the nation, I pride myself most on being committed
to my word - to provide unsurpassed
reliable equipment for the safety of my guests, to respect
the lake, to give my guests my very best efforts, and to
always be a straight-shooter.
Your safety is my first priority, and your satisfaction,
enjoyment, and success are my second priority.
When guests call, they often ask which
trip is the best, so we wanted to include some suggestions
on our website. If you have never been to Stannard
Rock, it is an adventure of a lifetime you don't want to
miss; if you have a full day, you'll want to go fishing
at Stannard Rock. It is a full
day charter to the most remote fishing location on Superior
where fish come up from the depths to feed on a sunken island
nearing the surface. Lake
Trout in excess of twenty pounds are generally caught by
casting spoons and jigs.
The Big Reef is just thirty miles out and famous for its regular big
lakers over twenty pounds. It is also a very consistent
area to catch fish.
If your time is more limited to a
few hours or so, the Shelter
Bay Flats are one of Lake Superior's most consistent Lake Trout producing areas. Coho, Chinook, and Steelheads are also caught in the Shelter Bay Flats.
And if you are interested in seeing the shoreline, Grand
Island, Pictured
Rocks, and the other magestic scenery along the shoreline
of Lake Superior, we are here to serve as your host and guide
for an hour, half day, full day, or on a Sunset
Tour.
Reservation are not required, but we do encourage them, particularly if
you are driving from a distance.
The reality of fishing is that it is a sport - a challenge
of man versus nature. I guarantee fish on all full day trips. That's not to say that I can guarantee
that you will always catch your limit or that your catches will always be record-size, but I give
you my word that I will do everything possible to ensure that
your full day of fishing produces fish. Some days, fishing is excellent, but
there are those days when it is poor. My trips are second to
none and our record over the past 20 years has shown us to be
very successful.
I maintain my boats, engines,
and equipment impeccably. Reliability is a very serious
matter on Lake Superior, particularly in that there are few
resources, at times there are no other resources available
to help a boat in distress. Over 20 years, I have never once
been stranded on the lake, nor even had the slightest engine
problem. Keeping everything in good repair ensures that every
party makes it back to shore safely after their fishing adventure.
While Lake
Superior is known for the record-winning
catches fishermen love, it is also known for its volatile
temperament. Whether trolling
a calm reef or braving through 'three sisters', I possess
years upon years of experience on Lake
Superior and overcoming its fiery.
We take reservations for both the current and the next fishing season. Many of our
guests book ahead. The season begins in May running through
September, as weather permits. Summer dates are going fast.
To ensure that your date is available, it is a good idea to make your reservations as soon as you know the timing.
